About Us

On Carrillo Street between Garden and Laguna you'll find a little hideaway salon that will take you to a another world of relaxation and healing. Adagio Salon is a very unique and special salon. It is the first and only salon on the central coast to offer certified organic skin care, non-toxic hair and ionic detoxification therapy. Adagio is a place to slow down, sip organic tea while having a foot bath, get lost in a luxurious European facial, or get dolled up with a new haircut, color, makeup or up-do.

The most popular facial at Adagio uses the ancient method of applying flax paste to heal and detoxify the skin. Another hydrating facial uses local desert harvested organic jojoba, and the deep exfoliating facial utilizes powdered green papaya.

All of the skin care and massage oils used in this healing oriented salon are 100% beneficial to the body and every ingredient is selected carefully. There are absolutely NO chemicals in any of the products except one non-toxic hardener in the nail polish. The skin care line used at Adagio is from Australia where the organic movement to save the planet has reached 95% of their population. They are the only certified organic cosmetic products in the world which means every ingredient is handled carefully from the farming to the bottling.

We are very proud to be offering organic products and services and invite you to come visit our salon. For appointments and more information please call (805) 882-1150

Cat Wellington
dyeing to be pretty

Love your (dyed) locks, but not the lead in your head? Cat Wellington can help keep you sitting pretty, inside and out. Wellington owns and operates Santa Barbara's first (and only!) all natural, organic beauty nook, Adagio Salon & Powder Room. Located on a charming little lane downtown, the salon offers your full range of services, all rendered with products entirely free of the suspect chemicals used in many beauty products: formaldehyde in nail polish, coal tar in hair dye (which is why pregnant women avoid it), and the preservative methylparaben, which is in almost all lotions, shampoos, and other body care potions. Wellington, a radiant and brainy honey-blond with the glowingly smooth complexion of a teenager, uses "only certified organic skin care, non-toxic permanent hair color, and organic hair and styling products" in her salon, as she explained over mint tea recently.

The idea for creating a place where facials, manicures, pedicures, and hair coloring could continue, but in a safe way, was born of personal experience. During cosmetology school, Wellington was rattled to discover rashes breaking out on her hands whenever she was working with the typical tools of the beauty trade. "I also discovered that there's an extremely high rate of cancer in this industry," she added. "I decided that I was going to do this career, but do it differently."

She spent two years researching the subject and discovering healthy alternatives to the products commonly used for hair, makeup, and skincare and opened Adagio seven months ago. It is a refreshingly unpretentious establishment, and has a distinctly different vibe from most salons. It feels wholesome, and real, and smells a lot better. The beauty community reaction has been nothing but positive.

"I didn't dream of the reception," she said. "I knew there had to be other people like me who wanted pure products, but in addition to the regular sort of clients, I get pregnant women, hospice patients, cancer patients, and holistic doctors."

Wellington is so aware of the ingredient-minutiae of what she's dishing out, and the whole spectrum of the beauty-supply scene, that even finer needs than simply product purity can be addressed. "If a vegan person comes along," she explained, "I can offer them something they can use. Lavender sensitivity? I can offer products for that too."

"I am here for beauty, yes, but I am also here for health."

Adagio Salon & Powder Room is located at 328 East Carrillo St., Ste. C. For information, call 882-1150.

Chemicals go into and onto our bodies from the moment we get up in the morning. In the US chemicals are so widespread with no FDA regulations. Studies are showing that some chemicals used in everyday products are more harmful through the skin than through the mouth. All of the products used at Adagio are 100% beneficial to the body and each ingredient is selected carefully. We offer healing and strive for health and well-being. You'll feel the difference inside and out.
